NUDIBRANCH ILLUSTRATIONS

Nudibranchs (new-di-branks) are fascinating sea slugs! They often feature in my work as I love their bright colours, unusual shapes and amazing abilities!

A bright and colourful 3 colour A4 Screen print featuring a variety of different nudibranchs. Hand-printed in my home studio.

NUDIBRANCH RISOGRAPH PRINT

I created a variety of illustrations showing the diverse and amazing range of Nudibranchs. Nudibranchs often have amazing bright colours, so I wanted to show this in my illustration. I then digitally coloured them only using 3 colours (and black) so I can adjust and overlay the colours ready to be printed using the Risograph. I printed onto grey and white A3 paper. This was my first attempt at using more than two colours, so I think this went really well and I will definitely explore Risograph more.

PSYCHEDELIC-INSPIRED PRINT

I created a psychedelic-inspired linocut featuring a nudibranch. First I created a linocut and printed it using black ink.
  

I scanned this into the computer and digitally added new colours. I then used the Risograph to print out two different designs. I thought that the psychedelic design went well with the strange and bright appearances of Nudibranchs.

The blue and pink is available as a digital print in my shop.

LETTERPRESS

I have created some letterpress experiments by trying out different textures and effects. This example shows a piece inspired by the colours and textures of sea creatures. I used bright yellow, similar to a particular Nudibranch, and white spirit to create the spot effect.
