Opossum Puppet

BLOSSOM THE OPOSSUM

My first hand puppet based on an opossum.

Something a little bit different - meet Blossom the Opossum!

I’ve wanted to try making my own puppet for a while now so I finally decided to just go for it! This is my first go at creating a puppet, so I definitely learnt a lot and found things I would improve on for the next one, but overall I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out!

I’m fascinated by puppetry and I love watching puppet-based media. I find it amazing how a tangible hand made object can suddenly ‘come to life’ and create emotion. You might be able to see that my love of Tutter the Mouse has slightly influenced the shape!

Why did I choose an opossum? I’m still not sure but I think they’re cute!

I created removable arm rods, posable fingers and a tail that has secondary movement to bring a fun element of ‘life’.

With the materials, I tried to use a lot of what I already had at home and sourcing materials from charity shops. I used offcuts of upholstery foam and fake fur from my previous moth models.
